The Bachelor of Arts in Business Leadership at Great Northern University is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of leadership. This program utilizes an interdisciplinary approach with a particular focus on the following leadership theories: business, steward, trait, transformational, and servant. The framework for this program examines leaders, followers, and environments.


Students in the Business Leadership program will learn how to adapt to their contexts in order to instill vision and expand influence. The curriculum provides students with a strong foundational knowledge of leadership principles that will help them become effective leaders in various careers. Students will also be equipped with practical skills in communication and navigating organizational change and conflicts.


Outside the classroom, GNU students in this major can be seen in leadership roles both on and off campus. The curriculum requires students to complete three practicums in three semesters, an internship, and a senior capstone. This gives them the experience necessary to apply skills learned in the classroom to real-life contexts, while still being coached by our professional faculty.

Sample Core Courses

Leadership Foundations

This course is designed to provide a foundation for leadership. Students will understand foundational leadership theories and a framework for leadership.  These key aspects of leadership will be personally applied.

Communication Strategies for Business Leaders

This course explores the strategies and best communication practices for leaders. Students will focus on understanding how to communicate effectively as leaders.

Introduction to Business Ethics

This course provides students with a foundational understanding of Christian ethics as related to the teachings of Scripture, and the practice of ethics in relation to the marketplace and the modern corporation. Case studies in modern ethics are discussed with a view to raising the moral consciousness of business professionals. A core aspect of this course is the development of problem-solving abilities and critical decision-making skills for ethical situations in the modern business world.

Strategic Planning for Organizations

This course is designed to emphasize the key concepts of leadership that leaders should understand and be able to apply. Particular focus will be on the following: vision, mission, core values, and strategic planning theories.
